Current Projects

Pretty Up Beechview does more than just pick up trash. We have a variety of different projects, all with the goal of turning Beechview into a more livable neighborhood and bonded community.

P.U.B. is always looking for volunteers. A variety of skills are needed to keep this group running smoothly.

How to Adopt-A-Block

1. Call 412-531-6378 and let us know the area you would like to keep clean (all uncolored areas are open to adopt).
2. Periodically call us with the number of trash and recycling bags that you collect.
3. Give us a call if you need help with a particularly large mess.

Why a trash blog?

Out of frustration and necessity we have created this blog to address the problem of trash in our neighborhood.
We have always been socially and politically active. At least we voted, but for the past few years our biggest involvement has been staying present in national issues and complaining about them to our friends and family. It has been a while since we have gotten anything done that would benefit our community socially or politically. Not that cleaning up trash should be a political statement.
Then we bought a house in Beechview. We love our house. It is beautiful, it fits our needs, big enough for our family now and enough room to grow as we get larger (in number, not in waist size).
The problem is we don't love our neighborhood. We like it. We like it a lot, and we want to love it, but there are a few things that need to change before that can happen. We are not interested in locking ourselves in our home to ignore what is happening outside. We decided to get involved in creating the neighborhood that we envision. We decided to get outside and walk the streets and meet our neighbors and turn our neighborhood into a community.
This is our first step in turning the neighborhood of Beechview into the community of Beechview. We know it isn't much. A blog encouraging people to clean up trash. But really this is a little more than that. This is a blog encouraging the people of Beechview to take pride in their neighborhood, to take pride in their streets, to take pride in their community. Get outside with me and my family and meet our neighbors. Let's work together to make our home a more pleasant place to live.
